HELFORD GIG RACE

The original Cornish Pilot Gig was used as a general-purpose work boat as well as taking pilots out to incoming vessels off the Atlantic. In those days, the race would be the first gig to get their pilot on board a vessel won the job, and hence the payment. HRB’s office sits in the middle of the Helford beach surrounded by the gig entrants. I was asked to attend the race and take the official images of the race from HRB’s own Dyson Sea Truck which also doubles up as the HRB River Tour boat.
